Brazilian presidential candidates will have one of their final chances to reach voters on Thursday, when TV Globo hosts its traditional end-of-campaign debate before Sunday’s election. President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, seeking an unprecedented fourth term, will not attend after skipping every debate this year. Senator Flavio Bolsonaro, Lula’s main challenger and the son of former President Jair Bolsonaro, will participate. A Quaest survey showed Lula leading the first round with 39% support to Bolsonaro’s 34%, while the two were tied at 42% in a simulated runoff. The debate is expected to give Bolsonaro and other right-of-center candidates an opportunity to appeal to undecided voters and criticize Lula.
