Lloyds Banking Group, the major U.K. financial services group, said on Sept. 30 that it had completed a live experiment with Visa involving stablecoin (digital tokens designed to maintain stable value) cross-border payments. The trial ran for seven days, including the weekend, and processed approximately ¥120 million. It used real transactions to examine the back-end process in which financial institutions exchange assets, complete payments and reconcile the results. Lloyds said the experiment explored how stablecoin-based settlement could support faster, more transparent and flexible international transactions.
