Hyundai Motor and Kia set all-time U.S. sales records in the third quarter, with combined deliveries rising 5.4% to 506,200 vehicles. Hyundai Motor, including Genesis, sold 269,541 units, up 3.5%, while Kia sold 236,659, up 7.8%; Genesis sales rose 5.5% to 22,645. The result puts the group on course to potentially surpass Ford, whose third-quarter sales were projected at 504,172 vehicles by Cox Automotive, and rank third behind GM and Toyota if the estimate holds. Hybrids drove the performance, with combined sales jumping 53.4% to a record 138,112 units, while electric-vehicle sales declined 51% to 22,311. Eco-friendly vehicle sales reached a record 160,423 units, or 31.6% of total sales. Hyundai Motor and Kia are approaching 40 years since entering the U.S. market.
