Romania's trade deficit widened in June 2026 as import growth outpaced exports. The monthly gap reached EUR 2.961 billion, up from EUR 2.397 billion in the same month a year earlier, with exports rising 5.9% year on year to EUR 8.702 billion and imports increasing 9.9% to EUR 11.663 billion. Export growth was supported by higher shipments to both EU and non-EU markets, while imports also advanced across both blocs. For the January-June period, exports increased 3.0% to EUR 49.038 billion, led by food and live animals, manufactured goods classified by raw materials, and machinery and transport equipment. Imports rose 1.7% to EUR 65.498 billion, driven by machinery and transport equipment, manufactured goods classified by raw materials, and chemical and related products. Despite the wider June shortfall, the six-month trade gap stood at EUR 16.460 billion, down EUR 0.3 billion, or 2.0%, from the same period last year.
