Manus said it will resume operating as an independent company and will delete data generated by certain users on or after December 29, 2025 later this month as part of its separation from Meta. The AI startup said the move is tied to its transition back to independent operations and to compliance with regulatory requirements in specific jurisdictions. Affected users will be notified through the Manus app and by email, and they will be able to back up their data before deletion. The change follows Beijing's April order requiring Meta to unwind its $2 billion-plus acquisition of Manus amid tighter Chinese scrutiny of U.S. investment in startups developing frontier technologies. Reuters reported in July that Tencent has been in talks to become Manus' largest shareholder.
