Peter Todd called the approach "an extremely crazy decision," arguing that Testnet4 blocks are cheap enough to mine that someone could repeatedly compute hashes to steer the result toward a preferred algorithm. Multiple competing Testnet4 blocks then appeared at the same height, reinforcing manipulation concerns. In the BIP-110 Discord, Luke Dashjr said, "I am even more confused," while one participant said they had already ordered a Blake2b ASIC (specialized mining chip) before the algorithm was finalized and later added, "I guess I should cancel the order." Luke Dashjr later acknowledged that Testnet4 was "not a good method for doing this" and suggested using a valid Bitcoin block instead. Giacomo Zucco said the episode showed it is now nearly impossible to "restart Bitcoin" in a fair way.
