Tokyo stocks saw selective stock-picking on August 12 as investors focused on earnings reports and forecast revisions released on August 10. Buying was strongest in small- and mid-cap names that paired upward revisions to ordinary profit or full-year earnings forecasts with higher dividends, sending Shinden Hitex, Cominix, Onex, Minato Holdings and Fujicopian sharply higher. Shinden Hitex closed at ¥6,160, up ¥1,000, after lifting its consolidated ordinary profit forecast for the fiscal year ending March 2027 by 2.5x and raising its year-end dividend to ¥235 from ¥135, while first-quarter ordinary profit rose 6.4x to ¥920 million. Cominix ended at ¥1,559, up ¥300, after raising its first-half ordinary profit outlook by 2.2x and increasing both its interim and year-end dividends to ¥25, taking the annual dividend (cash payout to shareholders) to ¥50. Onex climbed ¥400 to ¥2,050 after boosting its consolidated ordinary profit forecast for the fiscal year ending June 2026 to ¥370 million from ¥97 million, marking a swing from the prior year's ¥26 million loss. Minato Holdings surged ¥500 to ¥2,948 after projecting a 2.3x increase in consolidated ordinary profit for the fiscal year ending March 2027 and doubling its interim dividend to ¥24. Fujicopian rose ¥400 to ¥2,390 after raising its full-year ordinary profit forecast by 2.3x and lifting its year-end dividend to ¥170 from ¥118. Stocks that disappointed the market moved the other way. Vis and Tsubaki Nakashima opened at special sell quotes (exchange-set indications when sell orders overwhelm buying) and traded about 6% lower, while Toridori, QD Laser and Susmed also fell sharply on weak profit trends or loss forecasts. Elsewhere, Beeplats gained after returning to profit, though it remained in negative net worth for a second straight quarter, and buying continued in several names that announced upward earnings revisions, including Suntec, Suncall, Dijet and Fusic.
