Alphabet, the parent of Google, is carrying out a broad leadership reshuffle at Google DeepMind that will move some teams from DeepMind into Google's corporate structure, a step that further reduces the lab's autonomy, according to a Reuters-cited report from JRJ. The report said Google co-founder Sergey Brin has in recent months urged core AI employees to put their full effort into the Gemini model and has pushed research into areas including recursive self-improvement. After the changes, DeepMind head Demis Hassabis will become chairman, while his deputy Koray Kavukcuoglu will take over leadership duties. Google said Kavukcuoglu will have final authority over major DeepMind decisions.
