WeRide is exploring Australia, South Korea, Japan and Southeast Asia for further expansion, with CEO Tony Han saying the company is discussing market entry possibilities with Australian regulators. The Guangzhou-based autonomous driving firm is accelerating its overseas push as Chinese robotaxi operators seek new revenue sources and broader commercial deployment beyond China. WeRide entered Denmark earlier in August, taking its European footprint to six countries, and its autonomous vehicles now operate across more than 60 cities in 13 countries. Commercial launches of its right-hand-drive robotaxi service are also due in Singapore and Hong Kong. The strategy is becoming financially significant: second-quarter overseas revenue rose 164% from a year earlier, faster than the company's total revenue growth of 82%, while EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) loss narrowed 8.1%. Han said WeRide does not have an immediate need to raise capital but would remain open to fundraising if terms were good. The company had more than 1,800 robotaxis as of end-July within a level 4 autonomous fleet of about 3,400 vehicles, and it aims to deploy 5,000 level 4 vehicles by year-end, including 2,600 robotaxis.
