SK Group has set up a dedicated organization to accelerate SK Hynix's overseas growth and broader AI push, naming Yoon Poong-young, president of the SK SUPEX Council, to head the effort while retaining his current post. Industry sources said on the 13th that Yoon has led SK Hynix's Global Growth Task Force since late July. The roughly 10-member team of TL-grade personnel is focused on AI data center construction and global new business development, underscoring Chairman Chey Tae-won's push to turn SK Hynix from a memory supplier into a wider AI infrastructure player. The move comes after Chey outlined in June a plan to invest about 1,000 trillion won, or about $703.7 billion, in AI data center projects by 2035. SK Hynix has also stepped up its international expansion through ADRs (U.S.-traded depositary receipts), a Nasdaq listing, a $10 billion AI investment vehicle, and a $380 million stake in Penguin Solutions.
