SK hynix has appointed Yoon Poong-young, president of SK's SUPEX Council, to head a newly created Global Growth Task Force aimed at finding new overseas businesses, including artificial-intelligence data centers. The unit, staffed by about a dozen technical-leader-level personnel, is expected to sharpen the company’s push to expand globally and broaden its business beyond memory chips. Yoon, described by industry sources as one of SK Group’s top strategists, previously served as chief investment officer at SK Square, SK hynix’s parent company, and led AX (AI transformation) strategy at SK AX. The move follows SK hynix’s recent Nasdaq listing through American depositary receipts (ADRs, U.S.-traded certificates representing foreign shares) and the creation of an "AI Company," a $10 billion vehicle for AI investment in the United States. It also comes after the company acquired a $380 million stake, about 540 billion won, in Penguin Solutions through its U.S. affiliate as it seeks to build a presence in AI data centers.
