Chime has joined the Open Standard consortium behind Open USD, a proposed dollar-backed stablecoin (digital token pegged to the U.S. dollar) aimed at payments and global money movement, even as the company says it does not currently offer stablecoins or any crypto assets and has told customers to disregard third-party announcements about such initiatives. Open Standard introduced Open USD on June 30, 2026 with more than 140 partners, including Visa, Mastercard and Coinbase, and plans a launch later in 2026 as the GENIUS Act (proposed U.S. stablecoin legislation) moves through Congress. Chime's position reflects a cautious approach to digital assets: its CEO has said immediate demand among its users is not there yet, its July 2026 Chime Invest launch covered commission-free stock and ETF trading only, and its stock fell 8% in June 2025 amid reactions to stablecoin legislation and pressure from rivals pushing further into digital assets.
