The FTSE 100 edged lower on Friday, extending its losing streak to a fifth straight session as mining and pharmaceutical stocks pressured the UK benchmark. Lower industrial metal prices hit miners, sending Antofagasta down more than 4%, while Glencore, Endeavour and Fresnillo each fell by more than 2% and Anglo American dropped around 1.8%. Drugmakers also weakened, with AstraZeneca and GSK both losing more than 1%. The broader decline came even as energy shares offered some support, with Shell and BP trading slightly higher alongside supported oil prices. Aviva also rose modestly after reporting a 24% increase in first-half profit from a year earlier and saying it remained on track to meet its three-year group targets. For the week, the index was down around 1.4%.
