President Donald Trump is scheduled to host cryptocurrency executives at the White House on Wednesday, Aug. 19, as U.S. regulators move forward with rules for certain digital assets. Trump, who has earned more than $1.4 billion from his family’s crypto ventures, is expected to make afternoon remarks with technology leaders. CFTC (U.S. derivatives regulator) Chair Mike Selig, SEC (U.S. securities regulator) Chair Paul Atkins and crypto adviser Patrick Witt are expected to attend, alongside trade association officials and representatives from Coinbase, Ripple, Andreessen Horowitz and Nasdaq. The SEC proposed rules on Tuesday that would exempt certain token offerings from securities regulations, while the CFTC is scheduled to discuss crypto regulation at an industry gathering on Thursday. Sweeping crypto legislation remains stalled in Congress. Reuters/Ipsos polling found that a majority of Americans believe Trump and his family have inappropriately profited from crypto since his return to power in January 2025 and that his policy decisions are influenced by private business dealings. Trump says he has no day-to-day role in the family business and that his investments are independently managed; the White House rejects allegations of impropriety.
