U.S. stock futures moved higher Wednesday evening after the S&P 500, Dow and Nasdaq each gained 0.2%, ending a three-session decline driven by rising bond yields and weakness in technology stocks. By 19:45 ET (23:45 GMT), S&P 500 Futures had risen 0.2% to 7,741.0 points, Nasdaq 100 Futures were up 0.5% at 29,648.75 and Dow Jones Futures had gained 0.1% to 53,558.0. Treasury yields eased after the U.S. Treasury said it would at least double purchases of longer-dated government debt starting in September. The Federal Reserve's July 28-29 meeting minutes nevertheless showed stronger concerns about persistent inflation, with three officials favoring a quarter-point rate increase and several saying more tightening could be needed if inflation stayed above the 2% target. The Fed kept its benchmark rate at 3.50%-3.75%. Markets largely looked past the hawkish minutes as Treasury buying continued to support longer-dated bonds. Oil prices climbed toward $92 a barrel, adding to inflation concerns. Healthcare stocks led Wednesday's equity gains after Moderna Inc surged nearly 177% on positive trial results for personalized mRNA cancer therapy developed with Merck, lifting biotechnology shares and pushing the S&P 500 healthcare sector up 3.5%.
