Ouster, Inc. (NASDAQ:OUST), an NVIDIA Corp (NASDAQ:NVDA) partner, sees an overlooked opportunity in the hardware required to equip each humanoid robot. Ouster CEO and co-founder Angus Pacala said the company’s Stereolabs business is seeing accelerating demand as Physical AI—artificial intelligence operating in the physical world—gains momentum. Customers are deploying as many as six to 12 cameras on humanoids and increasingly adding lidar (laser-based sensing for distance and mapping) for safety and navigation. Pacala said robotics, including manipulation systems, autonomous industrial platforms, drones and humanoids, is scaling faster than anything seen in the last decade. The comments suggest sensing suppliers could benefit not only from the number of humanoid robots deployed, but also from the amount of perception hardware installed on each machine. Pacala said the industry is still in the early days of the Physical AI growth cycle.
