Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Washington’s economic pressure campaign repeats earlier policies and reflects an inability to develop new options against Tehran. Speaking Sunday at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini in Tehran, Araghchi said the United States had moved from threats of military action back to what US President Donald Trump called an economic operation. Trump this week announced plans for what he described as the most crushing economic operation ever taken against any country, calling the campaign against Iran Economic Warfare and Isolation on an unprecedented scale. Araghchi said Iran and the US signed a memorandum of understanding in June through Pakistani and Qatari mediation after hostilities that began in February, with the aim of pursuing a final agreement. Talks have stalled over implementation of the memorandum and navigation arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas exports.
