The ruling Democratic Party of Korea called Tuesday for expansionary fiscal policy (government spending aimed at supporting economic activity), as expectations increased that South Korea’s annual budget bill for next year could exceed 800 trillion won ($577.9 billion) for the first time. President Lee Jae Myung told a Cabinet meeting at Cheong Wa Dae that the country should use its increased fiscal capacity rather than focus narrowly on managing it, and called for a transition to a productive fiscal strategy.
