Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said the United States would gain nothing from economic pressure on Tehran, days after Washington launched a broad sanctions campaign targeting more than 60 entities, individuals and vessels. At a three-hour meeting in Tehran, Pezeshkian reviewed monetary, foreign exchange and financial indicators with Economy Minister Ali Madanizadeh, Central Bank Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati and economists. He emphasized containing inflation expectations and coordinating management of currency and monetary markets. The US campaign, named Operation Economic Outcast, targets Iran’s aviation, shipping, gold, technology and digital assets sectors and is intended to isolate the country from the global financial system. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent described the effort as the economic asphyxiation of the Iranian government.
