New Zealand stocks fell 133 points, or 1.0%, to close at 13,880 on Thursday, reversing gains from the morning session and the previous two days after the broader index reached a record high a day earlier. The index had crossed 14,000 for the first time on Wednesday, supported by the materials sector. Nearly all sectors declined, led by consumer staples. Precinct Properties NZ dropped 4.3% after its earnings report, while A2 Milk, Meridian Energy, EBOS Group, Infratil, ANZ Group and Fisher & Paykel also fell. Genesis Energy gained 1.8% after reporting higher earnings, although its profit was halved by a valuation hit. Summerset Group surged 8.0% after reporting a 92% increase in net profit for the six months ended June 30, 2026. Rising U.S. stock futures, following a surge in Nvidia shares after its earnings report, limited the market's decline.
