Korean biotech executives warned that China’s rapid progress in both the quantity and quality of drug development is increasing pressure on South Korea’s industry. Park Soon-jae, chairman of Alteogen, said China’s advances could leave Korea behind unless the country finds an effective response. At the 2026 Global Bio Conference in Seoul, panelists called for deeper partnerships with Chinese companies, more market-friendly regulation for clinical trials and regenerative therapies, and sharper business-development strategies. They also emphasized identifying technologies that pharmaceutical companies and markets actually want, citing licensing choices and the differing needs of major drugmakers such as Eli Lilly and GSK.
