Bitcoin’s realized capitalization rose by more than $4.6 billion during the week ending Aug. 30, according to CryptoQuant contributor Darkfost, alongside a recovery from about $63,000 earlier in August to above $80,000. Bitcoin traded near $78,024 after retreating from a three-month high above $81,200 earlier in the week. However, the 30-day average realized-cap growth rate remained at just 0.4%, so the data does not yet confirm a sustained expansion in market liquidity. Realized capitalization values coins at the prices recorded when they last moved onchain, rather than at the latest market price used for standard market capitalization. The metric can rise when coins move to buyers with higher cost bases, but it can also increase when loss-taking investors create lower-cost UTXOs (unspent transaction outputs). The full $4.6 billion therefore does not necessarily represent new external capital. Demand was also supported by U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs, which recorded seven consecutive positive sessions through Aug. 25 and attracted approximately $2.57 billion. BlackRock’s IBIT accounted for $284.4 million of the $314.3 million recorded on Aug. 25. Galaxy Research said Bitcoin posted a record weekly dollar gain of $14,775 during the week ending Aug. 23, equivalent to a 23.5% advance, although short liquidations and momentum trading also contributed. Darkfost said the realized-cap reversal was the strongest short-term movement since the current bear market began, while stressing that it still requires confirmation over several weeks. Traders will monitor continued realized-cap growth, U.S. ETF flows and Bitcoin’s attempt to reclaim the $81,000 area.
