PanStar Acro begins South Korea’s first government-backed Northern Sea Route trial voyage

PanStar Acro began South Korea’s first government-backed container-ship trial through the Northern Sea Route.
The vessel is carrying 737 twenty-foot-equivalent units of cargo.
PanStar Acro reached Arctic waters nine days after departing Busan New Port on Aug. 22.

The PanStar Acro entered Arctic waters on Monday, beginning the first government-backed trial voyage through the Northern Sea Route by a South Korean container ship. The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries said the vessel reached the Arctic region around 8 a.m. Korea time, nine days after departing Busan New Port on Aug. 22. It is carrying 737 twenty-foot-equivalent units (TEUs), a standard measure of container capacity, and is expected to leave the Arctic Ocean around Sept. 7–8.
