The DAX 40 fell 0.4% to around 26,140 on Tuesday, its lowest level since Aug. 24, as investors assessed the risk that prolonged US-Iran hostilities would push up energy costs, inflation and interest rates. Oil prices continued rising as Middle East tensions intensified, while eurozone flash inflation data were expected to strengthen expectations of near-term rate hikes by the ECB (European Central Bank). Industrials, banks and automakers led declines, with SAP down 2.5%. Pharma stocks, chipmakers, chemical companies and utilities limited the broader loss. Merck rose 2.3%, while RWE and Symrise each gained 1.5%.
