China urged the United States and other G20 members to uphold equal consultation after the group’s finance chiefs and central bank governors ended a two-day meeting in Asheville, North Carolina, without a joint communiqué. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said Beijing had participated actively and constructively in G20 discussions since the US assumed the group’s rotating presidency for 2026. China expressed deep regret over the lack of consensus and called for objective, fair and balanced coordination based on consultation and equal participation. The US Treasury said China objected to several points in the chair’s statement, including references to non-market policies and imbalances. The G20 Leaders’ Summit is due to take place in Miami. US President Donald Trump described the Asheville discussions as very productive and positive, while Russian Finance Minister Anton Siluanov attended for the first time since Russia launched its special military operation against Ukraine in 2022.
