Cardano ratified the on-chain governance action titled "Update Constitutional Committee 2026," seating four newly elected members and maintaining the committee’s capacity to review critical decisions during preparations for the Leios upgrade and Dijkstra era. Delegated Representatives (DReps) approved the action with 69.36%, just above the required 67%, while Stake Pool Operators (SPOs) approved it with 51.18%, narrowly exceeding the 51% threshold. Because non-voting stake effectively counts against approval, the result highlights how participation can determine governance outcomes. Under Cardano’s Voltaire era model, the Constitutional Committee reviews governance actions for consistency with the network’s constitution before they take effect. A failed ratification would have reduced the committee to three members, limiting its ability to process treasury withdrawals, protocol-parameter changes and other foundational decisions. The action was submitted on-chain on July 31, 2026, and ratified around September 1. The change takes effect at the boundary between Epoch 653 and Epoch 654 on September 6, 2026, with the four members serving through Epoch 799. Newly seated representatives include Marek Mahut, the Eastern Cardano Council and Cardano Curia, following audited community elections.
