Investors were awaiting August employment data, including payroll growth, the unemployment rate and average hourly earnings, due before the opening bell at 8:30 a.m. ET. Benzinga Pro estimated monthly job growth would rebound to about 56,000 in August from a loss of 23,000 in July. Markets were pricing a 50.2% probability of a Federal Reserve rate hike at its September meeting, according to CME Group's FedWatch tool. Treasury yields stood at 4.76% for the 10-year note and 4.34% for the two-year note. Premarket movers included declines in UiPath, Lululemon Athletica and Zscaler, while DocuSign and American Outdoor Brands gained. Oil fell, gold, the dollar and Bitcoin rose, Asian markets were mixed and European equities traded lower. Investors were also monitoring tensions after an explosion at an Iranian wedding killed four people and injured at least 68; weapons experts cited by Reuters said the damage was consistent with a U.S. 500 lb air-dropped bomb, prompting a U.S. military investigation. Wells Fargo Investment Institute's Brian Rehling said structural budget pressures, federal debt above $40 trillion, persistent deficits and inflation risks remain significant long-term headwinds.
