Crypto analyst Benjamin Cowen said the Federal Reserve should raise rates at its Sept. 16 decision after a strong August jobs report lifted rate-hike odds back to 60%. The move reversed the brief shift toward a hold that followed comments Thursday from Fed Governor Waller. Cowen said the 60/40 market split is unusually uncertain so close to a policy decision, as expectations typically reach 80% to 90% certainty within one to two weeks. He pointed to Atlanta Fed GDP tracking of 4.7% for the third quarter, inflation of 3.3% to 3.4% year over year, resilient labor-market conditions and oil near $90 a barrel. Cowen said failing to hike could lead the bond market to treat the decision as a mistake and push longer-term yields higher. He identified the September inflation report, due before the meeting, as the decisive factor: a hot reading combined with strong employment data would make a hike nearly unavoidable in his view, while a cooler figure would give the Fed room to hold and potentially raise rates later in the year. Cowen also said the Bank of Japan is very likely to raise rates in September, noting that Japan's 2-year yield was already 1.74% against a 1% policy rate. Bitcoin fell below $80,000 after the jobs report, surrendering most of Thursday's 5% breakout gain. The Parabolic SAR (trend-following reversal indicator) turned bearish at $77,800, while $76,000 marked the channel base that must hold to preserve the broader uptrend.
