The U.S. military rejected Iran’s claim that it struck an unmanned American military vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, with Capt. Tim Hawkins of U.S. Central Command calling the assertion a “total lie.” Iran’s parliament speaker and chief negotiator, Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, said Tehran’s retaliation would be “faster, heavier and more painful,” while Mohsen Rezaei, the new head of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, said Iran plans to announce an exclusion zone near the strait. The proposed zone follows a U.S. strike on three Iranian oil tankers after Iran launched ballistic missiles at U.S. warships. In southern Lebanon, Israeli strikes killed at least seven people, wounded at least 20 and destroyed an empty hospital, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. Israel said the strikes responded to a Hezbollah drone attack and that the hospital had been used as a command center. In Gaza, Palestinians held a funeral for more than 110 people, including at least 70 children, whose remains were recovered from rubble, while Gaza officials reported further deaths in an Israeli strike on a civilian vehicle. Muslim governments condemned Israeli proposals to facilitate Palestinian migration from Gaza, warning that removing Palestinians would violate international law and undermine a U.S.-backed plan to wind down the war.
