Circle, issuer of the world’s second-largest stablecoin USDC, has added prepaid fees for transfers through its Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol, or CCTP (Circle’s cross-chain transfer system). Users can now pay the protocol fee upfront in the source chain’s native gas token or in USDC, rather than having it deducted from the transferred USDC on the destination chain. The feature supports USDC transfers between all EVM chains supported by CCTP, where EVM refers to networks compatible with Ethereum’s execution environment.
