Artificial intelligence, trade and the yuan are expected to dominate next week’s summit between US President Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, with investors watching for concessions or guardrails around competition. A Goldman Sachs Group Inc. survey found that 46% of offshore investors and 38% of onshore investors expect Chinese stocks to rise after the meeting, while overseas exchange-traded fund flows and options positioning indicate continued caution, according to JPMorgan Chase & Co. strategist Tony Lee. AI-related disputes include access to advanced US chips, safety standards and restrictions on Chinese model developers. The talks may also address an expiring one-year tariff truce, potential purchases of US agricultural products, Chinese rare-earth export restrictions and the yuan’s value. The yuan has strengthened around 4% against the dollar this year, but analysts say Beijing is unlikely to accept significant appreciation because of its reliance on exports.
