AVAX fell more than 8% one day after Avalanche activated the Helicon Upgrade on its mainnet on September 22, giving back part of its recent rally. The timing does not establish that the upgrade caused the decline; the chart instead suggests profit-taking after positive price trends and an approach toward major resistance. Helicon introduced six changes covering network performance, staking (locking crypto to earn rewards) and transaction fees. Validators can automatically renew their stake, while the minimum staking period fell from two weeks to 48 hours. The validator uptime requirement for rewards rose from 80% of a selected staking period to a continuous 90% or higher, a change intended to improve network reliability. The upgrade also allows Avalanche to approve blocks while earlier transactions are still being processed, enabling more parallel activity. Its staking reward formula will adjust gradually over 90 days, which developers estimate will slightly reduce AVAX inflation while continuing to reward long-term staking. AVAX moved from about $11.31 to $11.40 before falling to around $10.36, with an intraday low of $10.11 putting the psychological $10 level under immediate pressure. Momentum has cooled from overbought levels, but buyers remain in control while the price stays above short- and long-term trend-leading levels. A hold above $10 could leave room for another move toward $11.40-$11.65 and potentially $13.50, while a break below $10 could expose support at $9.50-$9.75 and then $8.70-$8.85.
