Bitget will gradually restore withdrawal services from Sept. 28 after suspending them on Sept. 24 when it detected abnormal asset movements in hot wallets (online crypto wallets). Bitcoin withdrawals will reopen at 5 p.m. Korea time on Sept. 28, followed by Ethereum at the same time on Sept. 29 and Tether’s USDT on Sept. 30. Withdrawals for other cryptocurrencies are scheduled to resume from 5 p.m. on Oct. 2. The exchange said about $387.5 million in assets was drained across Ethereum and multiple Ethereum Virtual Machine networks, the XRP Ledger, Zcash and Tron. The figure rose from an initial estimate of $351.6 million after the company added assets including ZEC and TRX, not because of additional outflows. Bitget said it patched the vulnerability and blocked further abnormal transfers. Google’s Mandiant cybersecurity unit and blockchain security firm SlowMist are investigating the incident. Chief executive officer Gracy Chen said Bitget was using a staged restoration approach to reduce risk, differing from Bybit’s response to a similar incident last year. Chen is scheduled to host an online ask-me-anything session from 4:30 p.m. Korea time on Sept. 28, 30 minutes before withdrawals resume, for at least two hours. She said the company intended to turn the crisis into an opportunity and demonstrate that users’ trust was justified.
