People Power Party leader Jang Dong-hyeok said Chuseok public sentiment was on the verge of explosion and demanded that President Lee Jae Myung take responsibility for a nationwide land survey, real estate policies, a western-front DMZ (Demilitarized Zone) mine explosion and the repatriation of North Korean prisoners of war. At a press conference at the National Assembly on the 27th, Jang called for an immediate halt to the land survey and forced sales, saying the government should instead pursue measures to raise farm income and support young farmers. He also attacked the administration’s response to housing prices, arguing that a slight decline in Gangnam prices was presented as a policy success while prices surged elsewhere, and said rising jeonse (large-deposit housing leases) and monthly rents were driving residents into cheaper areas. On security, Jang accused the military of initially concealing the number of explosions and underreporting injuries after the incident on the 21st, while questioning whether and when President Lee was briefed. He said the government should investigate the accident, the alleged cover-up and the repatriation of North Korean prisoners of war. Jang called on Lee to resign if he would not confront Kim Jong-un to protect the country and its people. He had initially suggested possible street protests after Chuseok but said future action would depend on how the Democratic Party responds, including whether it prioritizes the regime’s survival, the people or Kim Jong-un.
