Tether said it helped freeze about $550 million in USDT assets linked to Iran’s central bank and sanctions network during 2026, supporting U.S. Treasury enforcement efforts. More than $344 million was frozen in April using information from OFAC (U.S. sanctions authority) and law-enforcement agencies, followed by more than $130 million in July. The stablecoin (cryptocurrency designed to track a reference asset) issuer said it now works with more than 340 law-enforcement agencies across 67 countries and regions, supporting over 2,800 investigations and freezing more than $4.9 billion in illicit assets. More than $2.4 billion of that total was connected to U.S. enforcement actions, while Tether’s wallet-freezing mechanism is directly aligned with the U.S. Specially Designated Nationals List.
