South Korea’s KOSPI climbed 1.95% to 6,971.35 on the 1st, approaching 7,000 as record semiconductor exports and strong earnings from U.S. chipmaker Micron Technology boosted expectations for a sustained memory-chip upcycle. The KOSDAQ jumped 4.48% to 894.29 for a fifth straight session, with biotech, semiconductor and secondary battery shares advancing together. Both indexes opened lower amid rising long-term U.S. Treasury yields but reversed higher, finishing positive at the same time for the first time in four sessions. Micron reported record fiscal fourth-quarter revenue of $54.23 billion for June through August and projected tighter memory supply and demand in 2027 and 2028 than this year. South Korean semiconductor exports rose 262.8% year over year to a record $60.3 billion in September, topping $60 billion for the first time.
