The Securities and Exchange Commission made effective immediately a rule change allowing Investors Exchange to list options on commodity-based trusts holding Bitcoin and other crypto assets. The framework requires each underlying asset to have an average daily market value of at least $700 million over the previous 12 months and to underlie a derivatives contract traded on a market covered by IEX’s surveillance-sharing arrangements. The filing also sets position and exercise limits for options on BlackRock’s iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF, or IBIT, in line with limits on other exchanges. Release No. 34-106575 was published on October 2, 2026, the scheduled opening date of IEX Options, and the SEC waived the usual 30-day delay. The move gives U.S. traders another venue for options on spot Bitcoin and Ether funds, which are among the most heavily traded crypto products in the country. IEX’s proposal remains open for public comment for 21 days after publication in the Federal Register.
