The reported deal would make the U.S. robotics company a wholly owned Hyundai Motor Group subsidiary, with the move underscoring Hyundai’s longer-term push into robotics and AI-driven automation.
Hyundai Motor Group plans to acquire SoftBank Group’s remaining 9.65% stake in Boston Dynamics for $325 million, a move that would leave the U.S. robotics company fully owned by Hyundai. Maeil Business Newspaper reported that Hyundai is expected to hold a board meeting on June 22 to approve the transaction, after SoftBank notified Hyundai that it intends to exercise a put option linked to the earlier stake sale. Full ownership would deepen Hyundai’s strategic commitment to robotics and could strengthen its push into industrial automation and AI integration.
