Garcia brothers forced Minnesota father to transfer over $8 million in crypto

Isiah Angelo Garcia and Raymond Christian Garcia, two brothers from Waller, Texas, pleaded guilty in federal court to interference with commerce by robbery after prosecutors said they invaded a home in Grant, Minnesota, held a family at gunpoint for about nine hours and forced the father to transfer more than $8 million in cryptocurrency. Prosecutors said Raymond Garcia, armed with an AR-15-style rifle, bound the man's wife and adult son with zip ties, while Isiah Garcia used a shotgun to force the father to log into his crypto accounts. The brothers then took the father to a cabin in Jacobson, Minnesota, where additional cryptocurrency was transferred, bringing the total stolen to more than $8 million. The victim's son later called 911, and investigators traced the brothers to the Houston area, where they were arrested. Each faces up to 20 years in prison and has agreed to repay the full amount. The case comes as security firms and insurers warn of a rise in violent crypto thefts, often described as wrench attacks, in which criminals use physical coercion rather than hacking to gain access to digital assets.
