MSCI assigned SpaceX its lowest environmental, social and governance rating, “CCC,” ahead of the company’s reported record $750 billion public offering this month, the Financial Times reported on June 21. MSCI said SpaceX lagged its industry because of high-risk exposure and a failure to manage significant ESG risks. Frédéric Ducoulombier of EDHEC said the company’s governance profile was close to “a governance horror story” for public-market investors. The assessment adds to scrutiny over governance and risk management as the company approaches a reported large capital-raising event.
