Nanjing police said they solved what was described as China’s largest domestic gold theft case by value, arresting all 11 suspects and recovering all 27 kilograms of stolen gold worth more than 27 million yuan. The theft took place on May 16, 2026. Police said the main suspect, surnamed Tong, was intercepted near the China-Vietnam border just 100 meters from the crossing point after fleeing more than 2,000 kilometers. Authorities said the full haul of stolen bullion was recovered and the case was fully cracked.
