Iran plans to manage the Strait of Hormuz under a mechanism set by Tehran and said the waterway will not revert to its prewar arrangement. Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, identified as head of the Iranian negotiating delegation and Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, said Iran and the United States agreed to establish a coordination center and a hotline to address problems more quickly within a 30-day period, while stressing that the hotline is not for approving transit permits. He said vessel permits will continue to follow their existing procedures, and the hotline will be used only to handle ship-related issues or emergencies. The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil shipping chokepoint, making any change in its management closely watched by energy and financial markets.
