The fast-food chain said Bitcoin acceptance since May 2025 has roughly halved payment costs and could save about $6 million a year if it fully replaced credit cards.
Steak ’n Shake said payment processing fees have fallen by about 50% since it began accepting Bitcoin in May 2025, reinforcing a merchant use case that centers on lower transaction costs versus traditional card networks. Executives said the move was not only a branding initiative but also a way to reduce costs in high-frequency, low-ticket restaurant payments. The company had previously said a full shift from credit cards to Bitcoin could save about $6 million annually.
