Bitcoin briefly fell below $60,000 and Ethereum neared $1,600 as SoSoValue data showed broad weakness, while M crashed from nearly $3 to about $0.50 and DeFi outperformed.
The crypto market extended its slide to a third straight day, with speculative segments under the heaviest pressure. SoSoValue data showed the Meme sector fell 13.75% over 24 hours, led by M, also referred to as MemeCore in the source, which plunged 67.51% after dropping from nearly $3 to about $0.50 within hours and erasing close to $3 billion in market value. Bitcoin fell 3.36% and briefly traded below $60,000, while Ethereum dropped 3.35% to around $1,600. No exploit or company announcement was identified to explain M's collapse. DeFi was a rare pocket of strength, rising 1.69% as o1.exchange gained 35.42%. The move came after an April warning from onchain investigator ZachXBT, who said insiders had been supporting M's price.
