Backed by Bitmine, SharpLink and Joe Lubin, the nonprofit is expanding an institutional outreach effort into a standalone organization with a broader global footprint and long-term funding.

ETH

Summary

Ethereum Institutional has formally launched as an independent nonprofit designed to serve as a neutral point of contact for financial institutions evaluating Ethereum for tokenization, stablecoins and onchain market infrastructure. The group said it builds on a year of institutional market development previously led by the Ethereum Foundation's go-to-market team, which is now being moved into a standalone organization with a narrower mission, wider geographic coverage and longer-term funding. Bitmine Immersion Technologies, SharpLink and Ethereum co-founder Joe Lubin are among the main backers, alongside dozens of individual and institutional supporters. Ethereum Institutional said it enters the market after building more than 500 institutional relationships globally and developing the Institutional Ethereum Forum, which it said has convened more than 150 senior executives and heads of digital assets from institutions representing about $250 trillion in assets under management. The launch comes as Ethereum's ecosystem adds new independent organizations aimed at different parts of its growth strategy. Ethereum Institutional described itself as the commercial and educational counterpart to Ethlabs, a recently announced research and development lab founded by former Ethereum Foundation leaders. The nonprofit said Ethereum currently supports about $180 billion of stablecoins on mainnet, roughly 60% of total stablecoin supply and about two-thirds of all tokenized real-world assets, and argued that platform decisions made by institutions over the next 12 to 24 months could shape onchain finance for decades. From launch, the organization said it will focus on five priorities: institutional education and engagement, institutional insights, marketing for ETH and the broader ecosystem, standards and best practices, and institutional events. Its presence is set to expand from New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore into other financial centers including Zurich, Frankfurt, Tokyo and Abu Dhabi. Bitmine Chairman Thomas 'Tom' Lee, SharpLink Chief Executive Officer Joseph Chalom and Executive Director David Walsh will serve on the board.
