Moonbeam plans to shut its Polkadot parachain by end-July, move GLMR to Base and refocus on AI agent communication and on-chain settlement, though it has not given a launch timeline for the new protocol.
Moonbeam said it will shut down its Polkadot parachain by the end of July 2026 and migrate GLMR to Coinbase’s Base on a 1:1 basis, with a migration portal open until July 31, 2026. Self-custody holders have been told to bridge tokens and withdraw assets from DeFi positions before the cutoff because funds left in protocols could become unrecoverable, while users holding GLMR on centralized exchanges do not need to take action. The project said it will relaunch as a decentralized protocol for AI agent communication and on-chain settlement, but it has not provided a public technical roadmap or launch timeline. The move comes as Moonbeam’s total value locked fell from $275.73 million on Jan. 27, 2022, to $1.34 million by July 1, 2026, according to DefiLlama.
