China Central Television said prosecutors in Shanghai's Baoshan district detailed a pig-butchering case involving AI face-swapping, foreign models and fake websites after a Myanmar scam hub was dismantled.
A defendant identified as Huang was sentenced to two years and six months in prison and fined RMB 30,000 in a fraud case tied to cryptocurrency investment scams, China Central Television reported, citing prosecutors in Shanghai's Baoshan district. Prosecutors said Huang joined overseas telecom fraud operations that used AI face-swapping, foreign models and fake websites to lure victims into supposed crypto investments. The case also linked Huang to a "pig-butchering" scam, a type of long-running confidence fraud in which victims are groomed before being persuaded to send money. After the Myawaddy park in Myanmar was dissolved, Huang continued participating in the scheme, according to the report.
