JPYC vending machine payment trial starts in Kyoto from July 1 to Sept. 30

INSPAY, JPYC, HashPort and Cheerio Corporation are testing stablecoin payments at three Kyoto locations, with eligible products sold at half price during the pilot.

Summary

A pilot allowing purchases from vending machines with the Japanese yen stablecoin JPYC began in Kyoto on July 1 and will run through Sept. 30. INSPAY, which works on next-generation payment infrastructure, is conducting the trial with JPYC Co., HashPort Co. and Kyoto-based beverage maker Cheerio Corporation. The program covers three locations in Kyoto city, and eligible products are being sold at half price during the test period. The project uses HashPortWallet, a non-custodial wallet (wallet where users control private keys), and is positioned as an experiment in real-world digital payment infrastructure. The companies are also looking toward possible expansion into unmanned retail.
