
The company said the buildout links Mumbai, Chennai and Singapore to support rising AI and cloud demand, with one new Chennai-Singapore system expected to be ready for service in Q4 2029.
Tata Communications said it is investing in subsea cable infrastructure to expand connectivity between Mumbai and Chennai in India and Singapore, targeting rising enterprise demand tied to AI workloads, cloud traffic and data center growth. The company said it is adding a new subsea cable system between Mumbai and Singapore and is also investing as a consortium member in a new Chennai-Singapore subsea cable scheduled for ready for service in Q4 2029. The route is positioned as a high-capacity, low-latency corridor for enterprise, cloud and hyperscaler traffic between India, Southeast Asia and global markets. Tata Communications said the added capacity will strengthen its Tata Global Network and support its IZO connectivity offerings, including IZO DC Dynamic Connectivity and IZO Multi-cloud connectivity, with features such as self-healing, always-on and self-provisioning network capabilities. The company added that the new systems will connect with its India terrestrial fiber network and provide onward access to more than 100 data centers nationwide. Executive Vice President – Core and Next-Gen Connectivity Services, and Chief Technology Officer Genius Wong said the investments combine short-term and long-term capacity expansion and align with Tata Communications' strategy to expand its global subsea footprint and reinforce India's role as a digital hub.
