Tesla expanded its Robotaxi service to West Miami on July 3, 2026, marking the program’s first meaningful step outside Texas, with initial rides operating without human safety monitors in the vehicle. The launch remains limited to a small geofenced area, consistent with Tesla’s practice of starting in tightly bounded zones before widening service as it gathers more local driving data. Tesla began the service quietly in Austin in mid-2025, added Dallas and Houston in April 2026, and said Austin had reached full metro availability by June 2026. Morgan Stanley projects Tesla’s Robotaxi fleet could reach 1,500 vehicles by the end of 2026 and 30,000 by 2030. The expansion comes as Waymo, Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit, said it would begin fully autonomous rides in San Diego, Las Vegas, Tampa, and Denver for employees in the coming weeks before broader public rollout. Waymo said its U.S. fleet was about 4,000 robotaxis as of May, underscoring the competitive gap with Tesla and Amazon-owned Zoox in the developing U.S. robotaxi market.
